Cyprus Tax Calculator for Expats 2026

Moved to Cyprus, working here from abroad, or receiving income from more than one country?

CyTaxCalc helps you estimate your Cyprus personal tax position while taking into account factors such as tax residence, domicile, employment income, PAYE, qualifying employment reliefs and foreign tax.

The guided estimate is designed for individuals whose Cyprus tax position may involve more than a simple salary calculation.

    Who Is This Calculator For?

It is designed for people whose Cyprus tax position may involve residence, cross-border income or more than one category of tax treatment.

    Foreign employees working in Cyprus

People who recently moved to Cyprus

    People considering Cyprus tax residence

Individuals applying the 183-day or 60-day residence rules

    Non-domiciled Cyprus tax residents

Employees who may qualify for first-employment tax relief

People with PAYE deducted in Cyprus

    Individuals with foreign employment income

    Individuals who paid tax abroad

People receiving dividends, interest, rental income or pensions

Individuals unsure whether Cyprus taxes their worldwide income

These circumstances do not guarantee a tax saving. The result depends on the income and facts entered.

Are You Tax Resident in Cyprus?

Cyprus tax residence is commonly determined under either the 183-day rule or the 60-day rule, subject to the applicable statutory conditions.

    183-Day Rule

An individual present in Cyprus for more than 183 days during the tax year will generally be treated as Cyprus tax resident, subject to the applicable rules.

    60-Day Rule

An individual may qualify under the 60-day rule where all applicable conditions are met, including minimum presence in Cyprus, not being tax resident elsewhere, not spending more than 183 days in another state, relevant Cyprus employment, business or office conditions, and a permanent residence in Cyprus.

CyTaxCalc asks about residence circumstances rather than assuming residence solely from nationality or citizenship. This is a high-level guide, not legal advice.

Tax Residence and Non-Dom Status Are Not the Same Thing

A person may be Cyprus tax resident without being Cyprus-domiciled for SDC purposes. Domicile status can affect the treatment of certain passive income such as interest and dividends.

CyTaxCalc therefore asks about tax residence and domicile separately. If your domicile position is uncertain, the existing calculator review logic remains unchanged and can flag the matter for review.

Being an expat or foreign national does not automatically make someone non-domiciled, and foreign passive income is not automatically exempt.

Employment Tax Reliefs for People Moving to Cyprus

Qualifying individuals who begin employment in Cyprus may be eligible for employment-income exemptions. Eligibility can depend on when employment commenced, prior Cyprus tax-residence history, remuneration, whether the employment qualifies as first employment in Cyprus, and the specific statutory relief applicable.

    50% Employment-Income Relief

A relief regime may apply to qualifying employment income where its statutory conditions are met. It should not be assumed from relocation alone.

    20% Employment-Income Relief

A separate regime may apply to other qualifying first-employment cases. The employment history and timing matter.

CyTaxCalc asks relevant questions before applying a relief and flags uncertain cases for review. The detailed treatment uses the existing signed-off calculator logic.

What If You Have Income From Abroad?

Expats may have foreign employment income, income from a previous employer abroad, foreign rental income, foreign pension income, foreign investment income or tax already paid in another country.

    Foreign employment
    Previous employer
    Foreign rental
    Foreign pension
    Investments
    Tax paid abroad

Cyprus tax residence can affect the scope of income potentially taxable in Cyprus. Where foreign tax has already been paid, foreign tax credit relief may be available subject to applicable rules and limits. CyTaxCalc can consider relevant foreign tax entered by the user and apply its existing foreign-tax-credit logic; it does not promise full relief in every case.

Working Abroad While Tax Resident in Cyprus

Certain employment performed abroad may qualify for exemption where the applicable conditions are met. CyTaxCalc asks relevant questions about foreign employment periods and uses its existing signed-off treatment.

The calculator does not reproduce every statutory test. Where the 90-day treatment is uncertain, review the result with a qualified professional.

    PAYE Already Deducted in Cyprus

PAYE withheld by a Cyprus employer is not an additional tax on top of the final income-tax calculation. CyTaxCalc compares the estimated income tax with PAYE entered by the user to show an indicative balance.

GESY and SDC are kept separate from the estimated income-tax balance, consistent with the existing calculator.

    Dividends, Interest and Rental Income

Expats often have passive income from Cyprus or abroad. Depending on the income type and residence or domicile position, different rules may apply to:

    Dividends
    Interest
    Rental income
    GESY
    SDC

Different treatment may apply depending on the category and the individual's circumstances. Not all foreign passive income is exempt. CyTaxCalc uses only the existing signed-off logic for the relevant income entered.

    Foreign Pension Income

Foreign pension income may be subject to special tax treatment in Cyprus depending on the circumstances. CyTaxCalc uses its existing pension logic rather than simply adding every pension payment to salary income.

Pensions are not all taxed identically, so the source and type of income matter.

    Example: Employee Moving to Cyprus

Consider an employee who moves to Cyprus during the year, begins employment with a Cyprus company, receives PAYE-taxed salary, and also has foreign income and tax paid abroad. CyTaxCalc considers the position in a sequence rather than assuming that every item has the same treatment.

    1. 1Determine Cyprus tax residence.
    2. 2Assess domicile or non-dom separately.
    3. 3Enter Cyprus employment income and PAYE.
    4. 4Assess whether an employment relief may apply.
    5. 5Enter relevant foreign income.
    6. 6Enter foreign tax paid.
    7. 7Calculate indicative Cyprus income tax.
    8. 8Show PAYE and foreign tax credit separately.
    9. 9Show GESY and SDC separately where relevant.
    10. 10Flag matters requiring review.

Common Cyprus Tax Questions for Expats

How many days do I need to live in Cyprus to become tax resident?
Cyprus has both a 183-day tax-residence rule and a 60-day rule. The 60-day rule requires several additional conditions to be satisfied; spending 60 days in Cyprus alone is not sufficient.
Does being a foreign national automatically make me non-dom?
No. Nationality and domicile are not the same concept. Domicile status depends on the applicable Cyprus rules and individual circumstances.
Can expats qualify for Cyprus employment tax exemptions?
Potentially. Cyprus provides employment-income reliefs for qualifying individuals, including 50% and 20% regimes subject to statutory conditions.
Does CyTaxCalc consider PAYE already deducted?
Yes. PAYE entered by the user is taken into account when estimating the remaining income-tax balance.
What if I already paid tax outside Cyprus?
Foreign tax may qualify for credit against Cyprus tax in relevant cases, subject to applicable rules and limits.
Can I use CyTaxCalc if I have foreign income?
Yes. The guided estimate includes questions relevant to foreign income and foreign tax.
    Does Cyprus tax worldwide income?
Cyprus tax residents are generally subject to Cyprus income tax on worldwide income, subject to exemptions, treaty relief and other applicable rules. Non-residents are generally taxed on relevant Cyprus-source income.
Is CyTaxCalc an official Cyprus government service?
No. CyTaxCalc is an independent tax-estimation and guidance tool and is not operated by or affiliated with the Cyprus Tax Department.

    More Than a Salary Calculator

Many Cyprus salary calculators simply apply tax bands to gross salary. CyTaxCalc is designed for situations where the answer can depend on residence, domicile, employment reliefs, foreign income, tax already paid abroad, pensions and passive income.

When Professional Advice May Be Appropriate

A professional review may be useful where:

    Residence status is uncertain
Domicile or non-dom status is uncertain
    Foreign income is substantial
    Double-tax relief is complex

    Multiple countries are involved
